Spurs vs Southampton betting preview and tips

As we take on the Saints at White Hart Lane we look at some Spurs vs Southampton betting tips for our Premier League clash.

Both teams have something to play for coming in to this one. We are looking for automatic Champions League qualification and Saints still have the chance for a Europa League place. So, with that in mind, we take a look at some Spurs vs Southampton betting tips for our last home match of the season.

Match Odds

We have a good recent record against Southampton coming in to this one. Of our last six encounters, we have won five and drawn just one. Our record at home this season is also good, having won ten, drawn six and lost just two, whereas Saints have won six, drawn six and lost six on their travels this campaign.

The bookmakers suitably have us as even money favourites to emerge victorious, with Bet365 the only firm to stretch their head above this.

Recommendation: Back Spurs at 2.05 (21/20) with Bet365.

Correct Score

In our last 20 home Premier League games, we’ve scored an average of 1.8 goals per match with 0.7 conceded. On the flip side, Southampton have scored just 0.9 per game on their travels, whilst allowing 1.1 goals per game. In fact, Saints have failed to score in 9 of their last 20 Premier League away games, making them tough to back to score.

The highest percentage score line is 1-0 to Spurs, which is a 13% chance and available at a best price 9.5 (17/2) with BetVictor. Second most likely is 2-0 spurs with an 11% chance, available at a best priced 11.5 (21/2) also with BetVictor.

Recommendation: Back Spurs 2-0 Southampton at 11.5 with BetVictor.

First Goalscorer

Harry Kane is the standout to open the scoring in this market and he looks in a good run of form to do so once more. However, Kane has been scoring more goals on the road. At home, he has just ten strikes in our last 20 Premier League matches at White Hart Lane. Of these ten strikes, just three have been first match goals.

Spurs have really spread the first goals around this season, with Eric Dier having opened the scoring twice and Dembele, Alli, Son, Chadli and Trippier all once.

Interestingly, our second highest goalscorer at home, Toby Alderweireld, is yet to open the scoring in a match at White Hart Lane. Neither is third highest goalscorer at home, Christian Eriksen. Alderweireld is available at a best-priced 29.0 (28/1) with Bet365, and Eriksen 10.0 (9/1) with Paddy Power to open the scoring.

As pointed out in the Spurs vs Southampton match preview, the Saints have been giving up a number of goals through their full back zones. This should make Son Heung-Min’s out-to-in runs, such as we saw him do to score off Azpilicueta against Chelsea, a viable threat. He is a best price 3.3 (23/10) to score at anytime with Betfair.

Recommendation: Back Son Heung-Min Anytime Goal at 3.3 (23/10) with Betfair.

Over/Under

This season, our home matches have yielded 2.5 goals per game, whereas Southampton’s away matches have seen 2 goals per game.

With the Saints having failed to register a goal in 9 of their last 20 road trips and both teams playing for something, I expect that this will be a tight affair.

Over 2.5 goals is widely available at 1.8 (4/5) with the under a best-priced 2.1 (11/10) with Paddy Power.

Recommendation: Back under 2.5 goals at 2.1 (11/10) with Paddy Power.

Other Spurs vs Southampton Betting Tips

On average, Southampton concede their first goal on their travels around the 44th minute, so I’m expecting a tight first half, with Spurs to pull away in the second. I like the look of a draw at half time and Spurs to be winning at full time, which is best-priced 5.5 (9/2) with Bet365.

Recommendation: Back HT/FT: Draw/Spurs at 5.5 (9.2) with Bet365.

Best of luck and may this be a profitable weekend for those of you that bet on Spurs. COYS!
